The Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) and the Lightning Protection Institute (LPI) have developed standards for lightning protection installation specifically for trees. This type of system utilizes the same specifications and cabling that applies to structural lightning protection systems and is considered a more robust installation.

In August 2002, the TCIA adopted the ANSI A300 standard for the installation of lightning protection systems in trees.
